So often discussions around the future in schools feel as if they are either a) an unnecessary replacement of all that is valued from the past or b) a never-ending extension to what is already happening, challenging limited resources and energy levels.

Neither feels satisfying. Neither inspires confidence. And neither can be proven in advance.

Part of the reason for that is that we tend to view change thru the lens of 'objects' that are either right or wrong in ways we can't accurately predict in advance.

But what if we might begin to view and design our school(s)’ future(s) thru the lens of our communities’ non-negotiable 'values' and ‘verbs’, no matter what comes our way? What if we designed based upon who we are uniquely rather than trends that come our way? And what if we spent as much energy thinking about what we must leave behind as we do about what we might add?
